Introduction

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are usually composed of a large number of densely deployed sensing devices which are required to sense, compute and transmit their data to the desired users. An example of a WSN with L relay groups is shown below. The objective of this project is to devise
- cost-efficient solutions for the physical layer and cross layer designs and
- energy harvesting approaches for the cross layer design
of WSNs to extend the network lifetime and optimize the performance. In addition, we aim to implement and integrate the proposed algorithms in real-time hardware and evaluate their performance in realistic environments.

So far, we have focused on topics such as: optimal power allocation problem, channel estimation, low complexity adaptive filtering and fast detection schemes, which can be found in the following publications.
